WI Statewide Parent-Educator Initiative at a Glance

WSPEI is an Individuals With Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Discretionary grant funded by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (WDPI). For the past eleven years WSPEI staff have been working to facilitate effective partnerships between parents and school districts through positive communication and collaboration.

WSPEI Supports -
  • Meaningful parent participation on IEP teams and in school advisory functions.
  • Collaboration among general education, special education, Title I, pupil services and other programs to welcome and involve families.
  • Collaboration with the twelve Regional Cooperative Education Service Agencies (CESAs).
  • Information exchange and referral to other agencies and alignment with and access to state and federal initiatives.
WSPEI Services -
  • Parental IEP Support, Education and Training
  • Technical assistance and training on how to foster positive parent involvement
  • Consultation with district personnel on how to develop and/or support existing district parent organizations, Parent Advisory Council, Parent Resource Libraries
  • Parent Education, Information, Training, and Support systems to meet the unique needs of the district
  • Resource dissemination and direct support to district staff and parents
  • Help districts meet the SPP Indicator #8 (Measurement of Parent Involvement) data requirements: including the parent survey process.
